Overview

EX Trunks GRN is a Fighter that considerably improves Hybrid Saiyan through his great Supportive Abilities that make the Team more durable and versatile.

He’s like a combination of SP Mai GRN’s and SP Future Gohan YEL’s toolkits, meaning he can Buff the Team through frequent switching and being Defeated.

His Main Ability’s Team-Heal was a much-needed addition to a fragile Team such as Hybrid Saiyan.

Strengths

Strength in Numbers

Despite having decent stats, EX Trunks GRN is by no means a self-sufficient Fighter. In fact, his main value is generated by his Team Boosting Abilities.

For starters, he gives a 20% Blast Damage Boost to the whole Team for 20 timer counts each time he gets switched in. Then, his Main Ability and Extra Move provide further Team Boosts to Blast Damage and overall Damage, respectively.

It’s also worth noting that switching him to standby Restores 30 Ki, which makes Combos easier--especially for Ranged Fighters.

Once he dies, the Team gets some other really useful and permanent Damage Buffs.

While mainly Boosting Blast Damage may not look optimal in most Team Builds, this is not the case for Hybrid Saiyans, where SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED is an absolute staple and is a fantastic Ranged Fighter.

Great Main Ability

While his Main Ability’s Team Heal is not that great if compared to other ones--it only Heals by 15%--the shortage of survival Abilities for Hybrid Saiyans makes this addition very noteworthy.

Not only that, but his Main Ability also shortens the Team’s substitution count by 5 just once, which is very useful in a situation where the Vanishing Gauge is not full yet and there are no substitutions available without it.

Weaknesses

Held Blast Arts Cards

While it’s true that Hybrid Saiyan is a Blast-centric Team, it’s always useful to have some Strike Cards to balance things out for a possibly more Strike oriented third Core Fighter. This is also a problem since SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED has Held Blast Arts Cards as well and is currently a mainstay of the Tag.

Specific Synergy

It would be preferable for a Support Fighter to have a more general Supportive toolkit and be usable in as many Teams as possible. For example, SP Mai GRN’s Team Buffs are not restricted to specific Tags, and that’s what makes her great Overall.

A big portion of EX Trunks GRN’s Buffing Abilities only affect Hybrid Saiyan and GT, and the latter’s only possible Team Build is a very specific Green Color-Counter.

Team Synergy

Hybrid Saiyan

EX Trunks GRN provides some previously lacking Supportive Abilities to the Team, so he will be a very popular Fighter for this Tag. In particular, he’s the perfect partner for SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED, whose toolkit synergizes perfectly with EX Trunks GRN’s Team Buffs.

The only problem is that both have Held Blast Arts Cards, and there is no other very strong Ranged Fighter that can benefit from such a Blast-centric deck in Hybrid Saiyan Tag.

Basically, the Melee Fighter filling the spot needs to have Held Strike Arts Cards to not have his Damage output considerably reduced by the rest of the deck.

In this regard, SP SSJ Gohan YEL fits the role really well, and both his and EX Trunks GRN’s Team Buffs combine perfectly with SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED’s Crisis-like Unique Ability.

Green Color Counter

Although Color-Counter Teams usually have a few options, this one is very specific due to EX Trunks GRN’s Tag-restricted Supportive Abilities.

Basically, the core is EX Trunks GRN, SP SSJ Vegeta YEL, and SP SSJ Kid Goku GRN--a completely Blast-centric GT Team with good Synergy.

While this Team only has Ranged Fighters in its core, that doesn’t mean that it’s a good thing. Even for Fighters with high Blast Damage, it’s tactically useful for them to have Strike Cards available.
