A new variant of one of the most beloved villains in the Dragon Ball series, the fan-favorite - Goku Black, is back. This time shares some similarities with his best buddy SP Zamasu RED in the Defense department, while also growing more familiar with possessed Goku’s body, picking up the near-death powering up technique that Saiyans are well known for.
The Best Defense
His very high base Strike and Blast Defense stats, coupled with Cover that reduces received damage by half, Health restoration after end of Enemy Combo and his self-Healing Extra Move make him a very tanky Fighter that won’t go down easily.
Is a Good Offense
His Unique Ability ‘This pain will make me stronger!’ certainly lives up to its name. After each Enemy Combo on SP Goku Black PUR (not only after a Cover Change), he receives a whooping 50% Damage Inflicted Buff that can be stacked multiple times. This ability, together with permanent Strike and Blast Damage Buffs from his Extra Move and additional Damage Inflicted provided by his Main Ability, can potentially ramp up to absurd amounts if played right, making him a high Damage Dealer on top of his great Defensive capabilities. This is further amplified by his second Unique Ability that makes him deal even more damage vs Saiyans.
High Risk, High Reward
While his Damage Buffs can potentially stack up quickly, he needs to get hit first in order to receive his primary Damage Inflicted Buff. This can be played around by skilled players, and also expose him to high Health loss combos or Rising Rush by Enemy Fighter.
SP Goku Black PUR has one of the best Defenses in the game, but his base Strike and Blast Attack stats are rather subpar, making him rely very heavily on amassing Damage Buffs from either his own or Teammate Support Abilities.
Being the only Tag he Buffs with his Z Ability, SP Goku Black PUR has couple great Teammate options here. Paired together with SP Zamasu RED and SP Mai GRN, they can form a highly Defensive Team with multiple Healing sources, while someone like SP Gohan GRN will add more Offensive power, especially when matched against Androids.
His base Attack stats are quite low, so this does a decent job of giving him some more firepower there.
Bringer of Despair
Draw a Special Arts Card next. Restores own health by 20%. +30% to damage inflicted for 15 timer counts. Requirements: 20 timer counts must elapse.
This pain will make me stronger!
Reduces damage received by 50% until combo ends when changing cover. +2 to own substitution count when activated. The following effects occur after enemy attack is over: +50% to damage inflicted for 15 timer counts. Restores 10% of damage received (Restores up to 10% of own health).
Path to Destruction
+35% to damage inflicted against "Tag: Saiyan". Applies the following effects to enemy when this character is switched to standby: Reduces Ki by 20. +30% to damage received for 30 timer counts.
Deals major Impact damage. Seals 1 enemy card slot randomly on hit. The sealed card slot cannot be used for 5 timer counts.
Body Grows Familiar
The following effects occur based on the number of times Special Arts Card "Body Grows Familiar" is used by this character: Card 1: +15% to Strike damage inflicted. Card 2: +15% to Blast damage inflicted. Card 3 onward: Restores own health by 10%.
While his base Attack stats are quite low, he has quite a few Unique Abilities that make his Damage good.
SP Goku Black PUR is an excellent representation of the Goku Black in the anime, as he’s hard to take out and gets progressively stronger the more Damage he takes. Most notably, he receives a 50% Damage Inflicted Buff every time he takes Damage.
While this seems incredibly oppressive on paper, SP Goku Black PUR’s lack of Unique Abilities relative to some of the Fighters in Z Tier as well as his low base Attack stats make him strong, but not broken Offensively. He does however have an extra 35% Damage Inflicted to Saiyans.
