SP SSJ2 Goku YEL comes to Dragon Ball Legends from the Majin Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z when Goku and Vegeta finally had the face-off Vegeta betrayed his friends and family to incite.
This is reflected in SP SSJ2 Goku YEL’s Fate Unique Ability--which increases his Strike Damage against Vegeta variants--and his Main Ability called Desperate Death-Match.
While his Defensive stats are still good, his Offensive potential has decreased due to power creep.
SP SSJ2 Goku YEL has some aspects that make him capable to Tank Enemy Attacks. First of all, his Defensive stats are decent, especially Strike Defense and this is important considering how many strong Melee Fighters are present in the current Meta.
His Cover Unique Ability allows him to reduce Damage taken by 40% until the Enemy Combo ends when cover switching and even Buffs his Damage inflicted by 20% for timer counts with the small downside of adding 3 seconds to his substitution count.
Having a Cover effect is good for Defense Fighters--especially when used to Tank Special and Ultimate Moves--but it is often difficult to take full advantage of.
His Z-Ability Boosts Strike and Blast Attack for Yellow Fighters. This makes him a good bench option or alternate core member in a Yellow color counter Team.
Little Team Support
While SP SSJ2 Goku YEL does have good Defense stats and a Z-Ability that Buffs both Attack stats, he doesn’t provide much Team Support otherwise. Most of his other Ability Buffs only increase his own Damage output and his Main Ability is also self-serving.
His Extra Move removes Teammate Debuffs, but it costs 25 Ki--that’s way too much for something that otherwise only Buffs his own Strike Damage.
Currently, the only thing he’s good at is at Tanking Enemy Attacks since his Damage is comparatively low. In this Meta, offering Tanking isn’t enough for a Fighter. Other strong Tanks like SP Zamasu RED and SP SSJ Berserk Kale RED also have some Abilities to them dangerous Offensively in addition to Damage sponges.
SP SSJ2 Goku YEL actually has some Abilities that could Boost his Damage, however his Fate Unique Ability is limited to facing off against Vegeta variants and Damage Buff from his Special Move only lasts for 10 timer counts, making him too situational to hold his own Offensively.
Thanks to his great Synergy with this Team, he can still be a valuable member and at the very least, stick to the bench. His role as Tank here is limited because the Defensive role in color counter Teams is best reserved for the off-color Fighter who can counter the weaknesses of the Team--in this case Blue. As a Yellow Fighter, there are better choices than him, such as SP FF Frieza YEL and SP Boujack YEL.

SP SSJ2 Goku YEL is a Defense Fighter who still does reasonable amounts of Damage.
The 20% Strike Attack Boost is great because Saiyan Teams are still predominantly Strike based, but the potential 30% Defense against other Saiyans is especially important because of how popular the Tag remains.

The Boost to Health goes without saying, and the Blast Attack Buff makes him a little more balanced too.

This is a good option, as it gives him more Strike and Blast Attack–two stats he is almost dead-even in–but the Strike Defense will also make him a bit more durable.
“You'll Pay” is also good for the potential 20% Strike Attack.
Restore own health by 30%. Remove enemy Attribute Upgrade. Requirements: 25 timer counts must elapse.
