Overview

And here we are, talking about Trunks, the son of Vegeta! The swordsman joins the game as a defensive unit, basing all his bulkiness thanks to his Unique Ability "Cover: Reduce Damage" which allows him to greatly reduce any damage taken from the enemy.

This units doesn't have to be underestimated offensively: He can draw his own Ultimate Card thanks to his Main Ability, and whoever has some experience with Dragon Ball Legends knows that the ability to draw the Ultimate at will it's one of the best mechanics available.

Overall, Trunks is a good-rounded character that manages to perform well in defense while not completely ignoring offense. He may not be the best in what he does, but he still performs good and is a nice addition to your party.

Strengths

Can draw his own Ultimate Art Card

We all know how this kind of Main Ability works, we learned to love this mechanic thanks to SP RED SSJ Goku and here it works essentially the same. After 25 timer counts elapsed the character gets a nice Ultimate which costs only 20 that can be used at will. As usual, we remember that the best way to put in combos one of these moves is: Landing a Strike / Blast art -> Using Main Ability -> Landing ANOTHER Strike / Blast -> Using the Ultimate to end the sequence.

Cover: Reduce Damage

Trunks is a DEFENSE-type character, that means that his main role is defending his companions. In order to do so, he takes advantage of this Unique Ability, that allows him to reduce the damage taken by 40% when "changing cover", that means when Trunks and another unit swap in the middle of a combo. Incredibly useful, especially in those situations where you're enemy is trying to corner you using type advantages.

Counter to Frieza Force units

Thanks to his other Unique, he deals an additional 20% damage to all Frieza Force units. Currently in the meta that are some characters that are part of said category, such as SP PUR Vegeta or SP YEL Final Form Frieza, so it's a nice addition.

Easily Playable

Due to a series of factors, such as that he doesn't actually need to synergize with someone in order to work, or the fact that he can take advantage of his Unique Ability pretty much in any team, or that he holds both a Strike AND a Blast Art card,  make this character a very easy unit to use. He can be played in incomplete verions of other teams without worrying too much about the consequences.

Weaknesses

Low Attack values

Despite the fact that this character's attack potency is somehow decent thanks to the fact that he can draw his Ultimate, it doesn't change the fact that both Trunks' attack stats are very, very low. It's understandable,making him also good in offense would've been a bit unbalanced and that's not what they were going for with this character.

Hybrid Saiyan

So far in the game, the Hybrid Saiyan tag do not possess all the sheer amount of support and buffs that the Pure Saiyan tag possess, so being an half-breed is by itself a huge weakness for this character. Sadly, it is known that the Dragon Ball world is a merciless one when you're not a Saiyan. There is still hope in a future "Super Saiyan" category though.

Pointless Z-Ability

Given that this character is all about defense, I wonder what's the point of having an Ability that boosts your Blast attack value - Especially considering that said Blast Attack value is low for this unit. This is just random and hardly helps any team aside from Hybrid Saiyan which barely exists.

 

Recommended Equipment

Despite not having a proper team yet, Hybrid Saiyans have some nice equips, which we decided to take advantage of. They are mostly for boosting attack, but due to the fact that these GOLD equips are actually pretty good, and also due to the fact that those items also boost other stats such as Strike Defense or Ki Restore Speed, we suggest to use these to unleash the full potential of this warrior.

Team Synergy

Hybrid Saiyan

The "Hybrid Saiyan" category isn't complete yet, there is the need of more Z-Abilities, but it's pretty close to become a full fledged team. Currently, Trunks would be without a doubt one of the best options for said team, even if a new unit gets released.

Red

There haven't been any new additions to RED lately, so he's still one of the Main Characters for said team together with his father and Goku, all of them in their Super Saiyan versions. It's hard to predict which one of them is going to be taken out from the team, considering that the next character will likely be a RED unit: It all depends on who's going to join the team. Whatever happens, anyway, Trunks will always be a viable choice for this Monochromatic team.

Being a defense-centered character, prioritize the defense-centered stuff.

I do not suggest to aim for attack values, even though the temptation is strong. The character can deal a fair amount of damage but is clearly not thought as a damage dealer, so focus on what he's best at.
