Tier Z

What makes a Fighter ‘Z Tier’?

They are well above average in all criteria, but what really sets each of them apart is a particular piece of their toolkit--an Ability that exerts control over core game systems and forces Enemy Teams to play around a single Fighter.

SP Super Vegito (Purple)
Explanation

Stats

HP 2412373
Strike ATK 247440
Blast ATK 219638
Strike DEF 149591
Blast DEF 146660

Why this Tier?

  • Whether he’s entering the battlefield, drawing Cards, or on the receiving end of a Combo, he has a seemingly endless amount Damage inflicted Buffs.

  • His Main Ability restores his own Health by a massive 30%, gives him 50 Ki instantly, increases his Damage inflicted and draws an Ultimate Arts Card. His Ultimate Move itself does massive Damage on top of it all.

Discussion:

To the surprise of no one, SP Super Vegito PUR is an incredibly oppressive Fighter and does a little bit of everything exceptionally well. A non-stop flow of Damage inflicted Buffs, a devastating Ultimate Move, anti-Regeneration Unique, a Main Ability Heal and Cover against Strike Arts Cards will keep him on top for a very long time.

SP Super Saiyan 2 Youth Gohan (Red)
Explanation

HP 2341700
Strike ATK 234724
Blast ATK 253121
Strike DEF 153311
Blast DEF 151804

Why this Tier?

  • His Blast Attack and Defensive stats are incredible, and the former is further Boosted by a powerful toolkit.

  • The recent Son Family additions have at long last given him an excellent Team.

Discussion:

The one thing holding SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED back from Z Tier for so long was the lack of a supporting cast, considering his excellent toolkit couldn’t shine with what he was given. That is no longer a problem.

Explanation

Stats

HP 2266253
Strike ATK 239191
Blast ATK 252503
Strike DEF 147298
Blast DEF 142983

Why this Tier?

  • He functions like SP SSJ Kid Goku GRN on steroids. He’s incredibly oppressive for the first 60 timer counts, but unlike SP SSJ Kid Goku GRN he’s still great afterward.

  • His “Let Us Begin Our Revenge” Unique Ability increases Damage to Saiyans, and applies Attribute Downgrade "+35% to Damage Received" for 20 timer counts when he enters the battlefield.

Discussion:

SP Golden Frieza GRN is a downright terrifying Offensive Fighter. Anti-Saiyan Damage inflicted Uniques will always keep a Fighter in the mix, but he combines this trait with a 50% Damage inflicted Buff from the start of the Match for 60 timer counts while always inflicting Enemies with Attribute Downgrade "+35% to Damage Received" for 20 timer counts when he comes into the battlefield. His Ultimate Move also does massive Damage and hits everyone on the opposing Team.

HP 2312225
Strike ATK 234593
Blast ATK 239304
Strike DEF 153544
Blast DEF 146855

Why this Tier?

  • He reduces Damage received by a huge 35% for the first 45 timer counts and simultaneously gets progressively stronger Damage inflicted Buffs the longer the Match lasts.

  • His Main Ability instantly restores Vanish Gauge and draws an Ultimate Arts Card, which hits like a truck.

Discussion:

SP SSB Goku BLU does just about everything. He’s hard to catch due to his Main Ability restoring Vanish Gauge entirely, but he’s fairly durable as well even if he manages to get caught. He also deals huge amounts of Damage and progressively gets better the longer the Match goes on. God Ki has an exceptional group of core Fighters and multiple dual Z-Abilities, making them arguably the best Team in the game at the moment.

HP 2312240
Strike ATK 247541
Blast ATK 226119
Strike DEF 142969
Blast DEF 142969

Why this Tier?

  • His “That Which Surpasses the Legendary Super Saiyan “ Unique Ability makes him a force to be reckoned with every time he enters the battlefield.

  • His Ultimate Move destroys all of his Cards upon activation but becomes a nuke based on the number of Cards destroyed.

Discussion:

SP SSB Vegeta PUR’s Unique Abilities make him stronger when he enters the battlefield while simultaneously locking the opposing Fighter in for 5 timer counts. This, coupled with his Extra Move counter and Ultimate Move nuke make him extremely dangerous on both sides of the spectrum. His God Ki Team - himself included - provide many dual Z-Abilities, making them very hard to play against.

HP 2234476
Strike ATK 226736
Blast ATK 239809
Strike DEF 143582
Blast DEF 143575

Why this Tier?

  • He has a great toolkit even before Transforming, but after transformation, SP Gogeta BLU surpasses even SP SSJ Broly PUR through his base stats alone.
  • His Special Move has legitimate one-hit K.O. potential and hits hard enough to offset any color disadvantage.

Discussion:

Whether it's from his Equip choices or innate abilities his toolkit is all about Damage Buffs with the added bonus of a self-Healing Main Ability and base Defenses that give him lots of survivability.

Fusion Warriors are arguably the best Team in the game and he forms a monstrous duo with SP Super Vegito PUR

Explanation

Stats

HP 2460152
Strike ATK 246620
Blast ATK 217754
Strike DEF 149541
Blast DEF 154098

Why this Tier?

  • She’s categorized as a Defense Fighter but through a multitude of Damage received Debuffs and a devastating Ultimate Move, SP Ribrianne BLU can punch a hole through almost anyone.
  • When her Teammates start dying--specifically Female Warriors--her Strike Damage becomes terrifying.

Discussion:

Not many Players are fans of SP Ribrianne BLU, but there’s no doubt her toolkit is exceptional in almost all facets of battle. Whether it’s Strike, Support-esque Debuffs, or being ridiculously hard to kill, she does it all.

Tier 1

What Makes a Fighter 'Tier 1'?

Tier 1 houses some of the best beat-sticks in the game--Fighters with in-game abilities that, combined with their ideal Team Build, mean a win in almost any neutral matchup. This makes them must-haves for hard-core competitive Teams.

SP Vegito (Red)
Explanation

Stats

HP 2412272
Strike ATK 215222
Blast ATK 219537
Strike DEF 158507
Blast DEF 158515

Why this Tier?

  • He’s a brick wall of a Tank for the first 30 timer counts. After 30 timer counts, his stats still remain Defensive but his playstyle will shift to an Offensive one.

  • His Main Ability prevents switching for 10 timer counts, allowing him to control the Combat Loop very effectively.

Discussion:

SP Vegito RED is pretty straightforward, he takes a few moments to warm up and then begins his Offensive assault. Despite the 30% Damage inflicted Buff he receives after 30 timer counts, his base attack stats aren’t great so he can struggle to do Damage at times.

Explanation

Stats

HP 2461386
Strike ATK 211487
Blast ATK 213608
Strike DEF 147025
Blast DEF 149219

Why this Tier?

  • Despite his base Attack stat values, SP Zamasu RED has a deceptively high and Meta countering Damage output thanks to his Utopia’s Beginning Unique Ability.
  • His “Immortal Body” Unique Ability makes him very durable and puts a ton of pressure on Enemies who intend to use Rising Rush, as he restores his own Health by 20% when it reaches 0.

Discussion:

SP Zamasu RED was a revolutionary Fighter on release, as he was incredibly hard to take out and could dish out some punishment himself as well.

While he’s not as oppressive as he once was due to Anti-Regeneration Fighters being released -- as well as the Regeneration Tag itself being in a bit of a rut --  the fact that he can be put into the God Ki Team as their primary Tank still makes him insufferable to play against.

Explanation

Stats

HP 2388702
Strike ATK 242779
Blast ATK 219851
Strike DEF 149801
Blast DEF 149808

Why this Tier?

  • His “Seems I Got Even Stronger” Unique Ability gives him permanent Buffs when he enters the battlefield or when the Enemy switches out.
  • He Draws an Extra Arts Card when his attacks are evaded with Vanishing Step, which has a bit of a clunkiness aspect to it.

Discussion:

Akin to the anime, SP UGA Super Buu GRN has a bit of a chaotic toolkit but the payoff can be tremendous. He functions somewhat similarly to SP Ultimate Gohan GRN, so he comes with some his pros and cons as well.

He’s kept out of Z Tier due to the chaotic, inconsistent, and clunkiness of his toolkit. He also faces very strong opposition in this Meta, namely SP SSB Vegeta PUR and SP Super Vegito PUR

  • Beyond tons of Damage Buffs, he has an array of Enemy Debuffs to tactical Combat.

  • His self-Healing and single-use Cover Unique Ability give him survivability despite not being a Tank.

Discussion:

When he enters the battlefield, he Buffs an already strong Strike Attack attack while slowing down the Enemy’s Ability to Combo and if that's not enough, he Heals and can negate Damage received once when changing Cover.

His Ultimate Move also inflicts massive Damage and comes with the dreaded 20% chance to inflict faint.

Why this Tier?

  • He has an insanely oppressive Melee-focused toolkit along with a Special Move that restores his Health every time it lands.

  • He has the same problem as SP SSJ2 Gohan RED on release in the sense that while he’s very powerful by himself, his best Team choices are lacking.

Discussion

He’s an excellent Fighter, but still needs more Vegeta Family Synergy to reach his full potential. Perhaps a Father-Son Galick Gun banner will do the trick, but until then, he sub-optimally slots into Super Saiyan or Sagas From The Movies Teams.

  • He draws an Ultimate Arts Card which deals massive amounts of Damage and Buffs any Gohan Variant Teammate on top of being the second Legendary Finish added to Dragon Ball Legends.

Discussion:

SP SSJ Kid Goten PUR needs a specific Team around him to really shine, but if provided with the right Teammates, he can unleash a hellacious torrent of Damage. He also has respectable Defenses to back himself up.

  • He does a little bit of everything for his Team, whether Offensively or Defensively.
  • Discussion:

SP Android #17 PUR controls the Combat Loop very effectively with his well-rounded toolkit. He’ll save his Teammates, cripple the Enemy Team and dish out destructive amounts of Damage while they’re vulnerable all at the same time. He’s kept out of Z Tier due to the Android Tag still being a work in progress, but they are certainly trending upwards now.

Discussion:

SP Mai GRN’s Teams have fallen a bit out of favor, but she’s still one of the best -- if not the very best -- Support Fighters in the game. Instant Ki Restoration is one of the most invaluable mechanics in PVP, and not many Fighters do it as efficiently as SP Mai GRN.

  • His own stats are no longer that impressive, but he continues to receive excellent Teammates such as SP Super Vegito PUR

Discussion:

He formed what was known as the Holy Trinity, a devastating hyper-Offensive Team that ran rampant for what seemed like an eternity. While Teams centered around SP SSJ Bardock BLU aren’t as oppressive as they once were, he still enables his Teammates to do ridiculous amounts of Damage.

True to the nature of most Gohan variants, SP SSJ Teen Gohan BLU is incredibly resilient and doesn’t go down without a fight. His Cover only gets stronger if someone on his Team is defeated, and he trades his Cover Ability in for Damage inflicted when he’s the last one alive.

Why this Tier?

  • His dragon ball theft and Paralysis are really powerful and definitely give him a place on most Regeneration Teams, but the low odds of these effects actually being activated hurt him tactically.

  • He has tons of potent and flexible Strike Damage Buffs, but his base Strike Attack stat is pretty average.

Discussion:

SP Lord Slug BLU is a great addition to the Regeneration Team and has a lot of Synergy with them. However, his Blast Attack is low enough to put him at a disadvantage when forced to use those Attacks and his low average Defenses combined with his Health-related Damage Buffs make it a risky move to let him dip that low.

SP Saiyaman 1 PUR has an excellent toolkit with some game-changing components. What keeps him from being a bit higher is a lack of top Team options, as there are only a select few Fighters in the game that would appreciate his two Blast Arts Cards.

His Son Family Tag is something to look out for however, as this is something that can work with SP SSJ2 Gohan RED.

    Why this Tier?

    • He has one of the best Main Abilities in the entire game. Drawing a Special Move Arts Card with a 35% chance to inflict Faint, enough Ki to use it, and a Damage inflicted Buff to go along with it is game-changing.

    Why this Tier?

    • His Anti-Saiyan and Anti-Hybrid Saiyan Unique Ability makes his Damage output great against those Tags.

    • He’s one dimensional Offensively and has a low Health stat.

    Discussion:

SP Goku Black YEL has seen an uptick in viability considering he does well against Son Family. Additionally, he attempts to alleviate how oppressive SP SSJ Vegito PUR is considering his color advantage against him as well as the extra Damage inflicted towards Saiyans.

    • SP Kaioken Goku BLU has an extremely powerful Transformation that lasts for 60 seconds and can really put the pressure on Enemies--and because of his “I’m Gettin’ Excited…!” Unique Ability, the more they evade him the stronger he becomes.

    • While transformed SP Kaioken Goku BLU is exceptional, the toll it takes and lackluster non-transformation stats mean he probably shouldn’t see the field for the first 10 timer counts.

    Discussion:

Despite excellent stats after Transformation, his lack of Damage Uniques holds him back Offensively. That being said, he's still a good all-around Fighter that provides a vital Z-Ability at 5 stars for any potential Son Family Team.

    • However, his Aura of Destruction Unique Ability can seal away those powerful Main Abilities that seem to be dominating the Meta--like Transformations--preventing the entire Enemy Team from using them.

    Discussion:

    • His Anti-Regeneration focus has become more valuable due to the shift in the Meta, but unfortunately for him, SP Perfect Cell YEL is one of the most common Regeneration Fighters.

    • He has an excellent Z-Ability that Buffs Strike and Blast Attack at all star levels.

    Discussion:

SP SSJ3 Goku RED’s toolkit is like the worst combination of SP SSJ3 Goku PUR and SP SSJ Goku YEL. He’s a glass cannon with some fairly powerful Damage Buffs, but his Ki Recovery Speed is terrible for a Ranged Fighter. Discussion:

While her Cover Unique Ability destroys cards, it does not completely flip the Combat Loop, even if a temporary Damage Buff does help.

Her Main Ability allows her to Debuff Enemies for the rest of the game, but as Ranged Tank whose Strike Attack base stat is pretty low, this doesn’t give her a significant advantage in the current Meta.

    Discussion:

    • His Damage output is quite low with few limited Buffs and unimpressive base stats.

    Discussion:

SP Gotenks GRN doesn't really do much Defensively despite being classified as a Defense Fighter other than a very situational Damage Received reduction Buff, which requires him to be switched out to activate. • While his secondary Unique Ability makes his death valuable, SP Chilled PUR’s toolkit makes him extremely useful while alive too.

    Discussion:

Inherited Malice is one of the best Buffs in the game and his Paralyzing Strike Arts Card makes him quite useful in the core now that Lineage of Evil can hold its own without too much Frieza Force Support.

    Tier 3

What makes a Fighter 'Tier 3'?

These Fighters require major focus and should by no means by the Fighter a Team is built around, but they don’t really give back and make their Teammates stronger. This doesn’t make them too different then from the Fighters in Tier 1, but these Fighters are typically older and don’t hold up to newer Fighters in the DBL Roster. The lack of Damage Buffs and competitive base stats needed to reliably win neutral matchups is what puts these Fighters in Tier 3.

    Discussion:

When building Hybrid Saiyan Teams, SP SSJ Gotenks PUR has a hard time cracking the starting lineups due to large investment costs for limited payout, as well as his dual Blast Arts Cards.

He also needs two Extra Moves and a Special Move to gain a 70% chance to inflict Faint. Fusion Warriors have a few new toy to play with, but other than his Z-Ability at 5 stars, SP SSJ Gotenks PUR can't really do too much to help out.

However, an influx of powerful Purple Fighters - all of which can negative Revive - has caused his stock to plummet.

    Why this Tier?

    • His Main Ability gives him a second chance at life and when coupled with his Crisis Ability, can pull a win out of a losing Match.

    • His base stats are fairly average.

    • His 50% Damage inflicted Buff when he comes into the battlefield is powerful, but he’s a double-edged sword due to his “Cold and Cruel Saiyan” Unique Ability.

    • HE Shallot LGT has some Super Saiyan 2 synergy, but SP Majin Vegeta RED still falls behind due to power creep.

    Discussion:

    Why this Tier?

    • His Unique and Main Abilities stack for good amounts of Damage to make his Blast Attacks hit hard.

    • He's very one-dimensional and situational, making him hard to along in most Matches.

    Discussion:

He’s like a newer and more powerful SP Super Vegeta YEL. As a counterpoint, SP Boujack YEL’s base Blast Attack is high, but not obscenely so. Ranged Fighters are also a bit of a tough sell in PVP if they can't consistently reduce their card costs. SP Boujack YEL is only good to bring against one Tag, and even then he still has trouble cracking the core on many Teams.

    • His "Guardian’s Resolve" Unique Ability gives him Buffs for switching in and out of Combat and successfully dodging Attacks.

    Discussion:

His Crisis-like "Flame of Hope" Unique Ability makes him more powerful as his Teammates die. It conflicts with his other Abilities which give SP SSJ2 Trunks and his Teammates a variety of massive Buffs. This makes "Flame of Hope" feel more like a consolation prize than a legitimate Buff.

    Discussion:

SP Good Majin GRN is the weakest of the Sparking Regeneration Fighters and his Healing are comparatively less impressive due to increased Damage dealt on the newer Fighters.

    • He has a lot of Synergy with Saiyans, Hybrid Saiyans, Bulma variants, Vegeta Family Fighters, and Purple and Red Fighters. This gives him tons of Team options but statistically, he’s not quite up to par.

    • He’s been power crept out of core viability.

    Discussion:

Considering how the side-step mechanic now works, it can allow for some pretty long Combos once they are locked in. The Meta is currently pretty Strike-centric and those Fighters don't have nearly as much Ki Recovery Speed.

    Discussion:

    • His power crept Defensive stats make him a liability to the Regeneration Tag.

    Discussion:

His limited Tag and Moves that work in oddly specific ways like giving bonuses to SP DK Piccolo YEL make his use very restricted. His Extra Move is still good and may work well against less experienced Players, but this shouldn’t be relied upon as a strategy.

    Why this Tier?

    • His Extra Move can be back dodged so he can’t follow up with a counter and will likely always be countered back.

    • His stats are pretty poor so even though his Unique Abilities mean he will always be Buffed, it won’t make much of a difference.

    SP Kid Gohan (Yellow)
    Explanation

    Stats

    HP 1883719
    Strike ATK 223729
    Blast ATK 143148
    Strike DEF 128111
    Blast DEF 126837

    Why this Tier?

    • The general decline of Hybrid Saiyans and power creep has hurt this Fighter’s viability.

    • Poor Arts Card mix really hurts SP Kid Gohan YEL. In order for him to be effective, he needs to be on a Team that can either use his Blast Arts Cards or compensate with four Strike Arts Cards.

    Discussion:

SP Kid Gohan YEL has a great Z-Ability for Hybrid Saiyans, but sadly power creep has made that his only PVP strength.

    Tier 5

    SP Super Saiyan Goku (Green)
    Explanation

    Stats

    HP 2193545
    Strike ATK 165322
    Blast ATK 203211
    Strike DEF 129342
    Blast DEF 126774

    Why this Tier?

    • His Cover and Main Ability allow him to break Combos and reset the Combat Loop but this Ability is no longer a PVP game-changer.

    • He’s able to steal priority from almost any Attack using his Special Move, has a chance to inflict Faint on an Enemy.

    Discussion:

His toolkit is no longer as impressive and SP SSJ Goku GRN has been power-crept. His stats are not great and his all Damage modifiers are non-existent to the point that he’s too weak to both take hits or dish them out against the newer Tanking Fighters.

He’s also burdened by his Z-Ability not being Saiyan and now his biggest attributes have fallen victim to a new Meta that makes them obsolete in most cases.

    SP Super Trunks (Green)
    Explanation

    Stats

    HP 1762490
    Strike ATK 241917
    Blast ATK 162867
    Strike DEF 129342
    Blast DEF 129335

    Why this Tier?

    • SP Super Trunks GRN’s true power lies in his Main Ability wherein he gets an incredible 75% Boost to Strike Damage for 10 counts.

    • High Card costs and low Ki Restore Speeds have crippled SP Super Trunks GRN in the long term, and the general decline of the Hybrid Saiyan Tag has not been easy on this Fighter.

    Discussion:

SP Super Trunks GRN remains relevant as a bench Support, but there are too many other better options.

SP King of the Demon Realm Dabura (Blue)
    Explanation

    Stats

    HP 2110881
    Strike ATK 205919
    Blast ATK 233263
    Strike DEF 142812
    Blast DEF 140713

    Why this Tier?

    • This Fighter’s Extra Move held Arts Card, as well as the benefits the Move provides, are extremely valuable but it comes with the steep cost of increasing his Special Move cost by 10 the first three times the Extra Move is used.

    • He doesn’t have any Tags, limiting his Team viability and Equipment options.

    Discussion:

SP King Dabura BLU is all about protecting the Team from debuffs while also debuffing the Enemy through paralysis and making some Arts Cards unusable.

A lack of Tags won’t completely make him unusable since his toolkit is too good not to use, but it means there’s a lot more to consider when putting him in a Team.

Power creep has also made him harder to fit into a Team.

SP Super Saiyan Teen Trunks (Red)
    Explanation

    Stats

    Strike ATK 161429
    Blast ATK 159814
    Strike DEF 125581
    Blast DEF 126199

    Why this Tier?

    • Top Players have found a workaround for Cover by dropping a Combo intentionally and waiting for the Cover Buffs to wear off. This makes that particular Ability less effective than it once was.

    • His stats are completely outdated at this point.

    Discussion:

Everything that made him great before is no longer relevant due to age severe power creep.

SP Legendary Super Saiyan Broly (Blue)
    Explanation

    Stats

    HP 1921582
    Strike ATK 241485
    Blast ATK 159104
    Strike DEF 124294
    Blast DEF 118232

    Why this Tier?

    • He has bad Defense, no all Damage modifiers, and his Strike Attack stat is no longer nearly as impressive.

    • Expensive Extra Move and lacks Damage Buffs.

    Discussion:

SP LSSJ Broly BLU’s toolkit has always been unimpressive, but this is made more so due to the increased release of Fighters with high Strike Damage, Damage Buffing abilities, and fast Ki Recovery.

His toolkit has always been average, but even the recent additions to the Sagas Warriors Tag won’t keep this Fighter relevant to the Meta beyond the Bench.

    Stats

    Strike ATK 167822
    Blast ATK 154112
    Strike DEF 127956
    Blast DEF 134517

    Why this Tier?

    • Farmable SP that can be 7 starred, giving him good stats.

    • The Saiyan Tag is so powerful that finding a spot for him on the bench, let alone on the starting line-up, is impossible.

    Discussion:

The strength of the Saiyan Tag ensures that SP Goku BLU has no seat at a table filled with Vegeta variants. If he were an Android or some other Tag, he’d be more viable--especially at higher stars.

    SP Super Saiyan Goku (Red)
    Explanation

    Stats

    HP 1712386
    Strike ATK 180837
    Blast ATK 226973
    Strike DEF 109677
    Blast DEF 115300

    Why this Tier?

    • SP SSJ Goku RED brings two Strike Arts Cards and a Strike Buff to the Saiyan Tag, making him a great complement to the other Z Tier Saiyan Fighters.

    • His overall stats are no longer impressive, and he’s really only useful on the bench.

    Discussion:

Between the Anti-Saiyan SP Goku Black YEL and other Tags’ Saiyan countering, SP SSJ Goku RED is now just too old to be relevant without a lot of help and can only be realistically used for his Z-Ability.
